Chef Ferneau - Randy Murray - Arkansas Governor Mike Beebe
Randy Murray began his culinary career at D&D Family Steakhouse in Savannah, Tennessee as a dishwasher and line cook. He also spent time honing his craft at The Hickory Pit, literally in the meat smoking pit. After moving to Memphis, Randy worked for Buckley’s Steak Houses as head line cook. Randy began working for Bosco’s Restaurant in 2000 as the kitchen supervisor and was transferred to open the Little Rock location in July of 2002. There, he served as Sous Chef until January of 2005. It was at this time that Randy began his career with Ferneau Restaurant as Chef Donnie Ferneau’s Sous Chef.
In the course of Randy’s diverse cooking career he has mastered many culinary skills. He did this through diligent observation of skilled peers and mentors and a deep dedication to personal and company standards. Reliability and diversity are Randy’s most prominent contributions to Ferneau. His readiness to change positions in the heat of the shift, front of the house or back, is an incredible asset. Randy is always quick to let inquirers know that his favorite station in the kitchen is the grill. It is there, that he feels his real passion for the science of cooking.
He has competed in several Iron Chef Competitions with Chef Ferneau, including the inaugural win. Most notably they conquered the Diamond Chef Arkansas Competition benefitting Pulaski Technical College in 2008. In 2005, they were honored with “Best Overall”, “Best Cuisine” and a silver medal for “Best Presentation” at the ACF Great Chef’s Competition. Randy also served as Donnie’s Sous Chef in the spectacular execution of the Slate 60 Dinner for the Clinton Foundation two years in a row. Along with fellow Ferneau Chef Cassidy Johnson, they were awarded the “Best Tasting Cake” for the Let Them Eat Cake Event, benefiting the March of Dimes. He also served on the distinguished staff for the ACF Chef’s Ball for the last 4 years. He was Sous Chef of the Year in 2008 and a nominee in 2009. Randy is also an active member in the ProStart Program for High School Students. While excelling in the culinary field as a full time employee, Randy has also managed to maintain a 4.0 GPA at The University of Arkansas at Little Rock where he is a senior on full academic scholarship. Randy’s wife, Lauren, is a marketing associate at Sysco Food Services Arkansas and has two dogs and two cats.
