Date:1/29/2010 - 2/10/2010
The 2010 season is almost underway. If your like me then I'm sure your going crazy because you haven't fished in a while! As most people know winter is a great time to get your boat and tackle organized for the upcoming season. Most everyone stocks up on new baits, rods, reels, and fishing equipment. I know I've already order my rods and reels from Daiwa, and I've been stocking up on new line from McCoy. However there are a few important things you need to check so you can start your season off right:
- Boat trailer. This may seem obvious and not very important, but if your trailer isn't working properly then all that new stuff you bought won't help a bit. Check tires, wheel bearings, and other areas that could potentially cause a problem. My Dad and I hadn't looked at our trailer since last season and discovered a few issues. That's okay as long as you get fixed when you have off time from tournaments.
- Batteries. I don't need to say much more. I'd rather replace a battery during the off season than worry about it during a tournament.
- Misc. tools such as clippers, scissors, pliers, and culling equipment. - Make sure they're in tip top shape so you can be as efficient as you can during a tournament.
Mainting equipment - Make sure your rods/reels are clean and ready to go. I use Team Daiwa Zillions and Advantages. If you take care of a quality reel like that they last a lifetime.
Electronics - Again check and make sure they're working properly. As well as the mount you have them on. Good electronics aren't cheap.
So there's my list. Sometimes we tend to forget the little things that turn into big things when they don't work properly. So mentally make sure everything you need for that next big tournament is in order. If you want to add anything to my list or just talk about fishing, shoot me an email at kchuskies11@gmail.com
On a side note, basstacklemaster.com is offering a buy one get one free deal for McCoy Xtra Clear line. Xtra clear is the same formula as the Mean Green - just a different dye. I prefer the Xtra clear. While your at it check out the new Fluoro100. Some 10 - 12 # test is perfect for finesse jigs, and the jerkbaits you'll be using in early spring. This is the line Jason Williamson used to win the 2009 Elite Series event on Amistad, so you know it's strong!!
Take care and God bless,
Joe
